Twitter Desktop Client War Between TweetDeck and Seesmic!

May 4th, 2009

I have just played with Seesmic new twitter desktop client. Though i have been using TweetDeck for last couple of months. Just wanted to try out the new twitter desktop client as there is a huge buzz about it on twitter and friendfeed. So, what’s so difference between TweetDeck and Seesmic? Well, everything is almost same just facebook integration on new Seesmic desktop client simply rocks. But wait, you gotta call Seesmic a clever jack! Why? Because they just used the new “Open Stream API” and “Facebook for Adobe AIR” very smartly. Facebook Open Stream API was just released a few days ago.I just think if TweetDeck’s last release was little bit delayed it would be great for them. Because then, they would include all these stuffs that Seesmic added. I’m pretty sure now TweetDeck will move it’s ass really fast to get all these new facebook api features enabled in their stomach. And well, facebook made a great move allowing developers to access users’ home stream. Seesmic is the latest result of that move and we gotta wait to see more applications based on this new API. By the way, I’m enjoying Seesmic client for now, let’s have a look at some screenshots.

and well, I guess war is just begun. I asked TweetDeck on twitter to know if they are gonna add new Seesmic’s features in their next version. and they said there will be “big differences in the next version, we have different path“. Smart answer Tweetdeck!

I’m sure next version of TweetDeck is gonna be exciting. What do you think?

New Facebook Layout Failed?

March 21st, 2009

My first status on redesigned facebook layout was like “is liking new facebook homepage design!” – well, I liked it and I still like it. But wait, i’m such kind of user who spends most of the time in front of his laptop, who likes and understands all these “real-time stream”, who understands how facebook is trying to kill twitter …etc.

But what about 200 million users who are not a nerd like me? Today, I have read almost 200+ comments on this poll that was published to know about users feedback. Do I really need to read the comments when the result says around 95% users don’t like the new layout design?

Still, I wanted to know why people didn’t like it. Certainly, users got some good points. And some of them are …

  • It brings all craps on home page, last detail of every single thing.
  • It’s confusing, highlights seems like an advertisement.
  • Users have less control of what they see and what they write.
  • Live feed was very popular tab and it’s removed
  • User don’t get notifications when a friend get tagged…..etc

I know, users have to adapt with the new layout and it takes time. This is call “adaptation” dude? We saw users hated the 2nd layout design but after a certain time they got adapted with it. Now, it’s not been too long since 2nd layout changed, but this latest changes actually surprised maximum users. Facebook didn’t prepare them like before. This time users don’t have option to go back to old layout which was on 2nd design change.

This time I have a full doubt about this design change. I just feel facebook must do something about it or they will lose a number of good users. I know people are addicted to facrbook, so whatever they ask us to eat, we are bound to eat that. But still redesigned facebook has to be changed, maybe not going back to old design but it has to give users more power and maybe bringing back the “Live Feed” tab will be a good idea. So that those who are interested to “real-time” can stay on that page.

Now, this is interesting. mark zuckerberg had a tread on his facebook public page that says…

Lots of good feedback on the new streams home page. Thanks for all the encouragement. If you’re not into it, try it out for a few more days and tell us.

Now, you want to hear what people are saying?

Read them here, im sure you will enjoy all users feedback….

what’s your feeback on new layout?

Twitter or Facebook?

February 12th, 2009

Twitter & Facebook LogoRecently, facebook launched new APIs that allow your applications directly access all of a user’s status, links, and notes via new methods and FQL calls. After this, we have heard lots of gossip on how facebook new api specially status api is going to kill twitter! What did you say ? I immediately disagreed on twitter! I wrote another blog on my old blog supporting twitter that it would never die in fact it will grow day by day. That time Facebook took status message seriously and I wasnt that much twitter addict like now, yet I believed that twitter will keep growing and no one can take twitter’s place.

What i’m thinking now? Well, I asked few questions myself before find the answer and these are the following questions ….

  1. Who use twitter and why they use twitter? Do you use facebook for same reason?
  2. How long you loggedin to Facebook?
  3. Does facebook show all status message on your home page?
  4. Is facebook status easy to search and find them?
  5. How many random people you have on your facebook account?

Ok, enough questions! Now let me come to the point. I have seen lots of comment on facebook status that says “what is this….what is that….what is sandbox?” – etc but never saw any comment against a tweet asking what does it mean! Why ? Because, these people who are using twitter are more professional and skilled. They are here to share and learn. You get some tremendous stuffs on twitter that none other tool will provide you that much needy information live!

Facebook friends don’t use their status for same reason of course. Often, I do miss their status as i’m not always loggedin to facebook. And when I want to check someone’s status I have to visit his/her profile and if i’m lucky I can see that. Why lucky? Because, if my friend does a lot of things then status message will go to next page or vanished! But in case of twitter I just have to type the person’s name and get the updates doesn’t matter when they had their last updates.

Other than that twitter is more public, anyone can search related tweet with simple word. It’s way easier to access and watch live tweet. There are lots of applications developed using twitter API that allow you to find real information you are looking for. I know there will be new and similar applications using facebook status API but they will never be worthy like twitter.

There are different purposes behind using twitter and facebook, you can include football/soccer in Olympic games but FIFA world cup will always have it’s excitement and viewers than your Olympic’s football game.
