I’m Bangladeshi NOT Indian!

August 7th, 2010

My boss always calls me an “Indian”. I correct him every time. “ Man, I’m not an Indian, I’m Bangladeshi”. He’s always like “Oh well, it’s the same thing”. No, it’s not the same thing, we have a country and we have our own identity. We fought in 1971 against Pakistan to get this identity. We are different from Indian, I correct him again.

Few days later he would be calling me an Indian again. He is American. I know not only Americans but the whole world knows us as “Indian”. Well, I mean most of them.

People know us as Indian? Why? I think in my mind who’s fault is this? And slowly answers come in my mind. It’s us who let other people know us as Indians. I have been here in Hamilton (Canada) for at least 40+ days. I’ve visited some Bangladeshi restaurants here and haven’t found a single restaurant who introduces themselves as Bangladeshi! Why? Because then customers won’t know them. Customers know Indians so it’s easy to sell foods eh? And trust me these restaurants are very popular for their spicy items, not for their names. What if they changed their name to Bangladesh, people would know there is a country named Bangladesh, sigh!

And why would we care about Indians when these people don’t care about us! I made a mistake coming to Canada through India. I will never make this mistake again. I obviously had a Bangladeshi passport and because of that I faced a lot of trouble at the Bombay airport. For this Indians will never get my respect.

But at the end, I look down for whatever is happening around us. Again, it’s us who are letting ourselves down. We don’t have anyone to blame but ourselves. Honestly, I was confused if I should write “Bangladeshi” or “Bengali” in the title. As a nation we are that much confused and divided!

Anyways, I wrote this out of frustration. I hope one day this nation will realize the reality and wake up from sleep. And my personal promise: I will always be proud to let people know that I’m a “Bangladeshi” and I will always introduce this country to rest of the world as a proud nations.

What about you?

Facebook is Banned in Bangladesh, unexpected!

May 30th, 2010

Lots of things can happen in 26 hours. Just got back at my desk after a break from Internet. My younger brother told me last night that Facebook was banned in Bangladesh. It was shocking to hear. I was trying to guess any reason behind it. I just read this news on bdnews24.com and the real reason was far behind my guess i did last night. I just feel instead of fixing the damage in our hand we are cutting our whole hand. Wondering if our government is understanding the lose for people who are having business with Facebook, who are advertising on Facebook, developers who are developing Facebook applications. Wondering if government even know that Facebook is not just a social networking application but also a business partner for lots of people.

I’m always scared to bet on politicians. I’m always scared to expect something from our politicians. I will pray that Facebook will be unblock soon in our Country.

Recall: 2009

December 25th, 2009

Couple days ago I was reading my last blog in 2008 and became a little bit nostalgic. One year is not a long time, but lot’s of things can happen in one year. Saying it again, never had such expectation out of time but I must say 2009 was the BEST year of my life so far! Because, I got married in 2009! I got married to love of my life in July, 22nd :)

Spoke at tech seminar arranged by PhpExperts group, and that was a great day for me to be in front of lots of talents from Bangladesh. It helped me to understand this local community I know and I love from my heart. I met lot’s of people I know from twitter/friendfeed/facebook but never saw them before. Though I couldn’t meet all the guys I know…and well, it helped me to get closer with some talent speakers , whoa!

Working at Trippertlabs is always fun, what a year it has been for this company! Working on some exciting iPhone projects and after a couple days you see them in the top list at iPhone app store, how does it feel? I can remember the weekend we worked on some iPhone quiz applications and one of them went to #1 position in the free app category. This excitement continued through out the year dude but out of all these biggest news from my company was acquisitions by Playdom!

“Amra Positive” idea came from some frustrations and interest to learn python. This is a personal project I developed for local community to share all good news within 150 chars. I was glad to receive some positive response from all kinds of users. I hope to upgrade this app soon on spare time but I will love to get more feedback and advices from you guys :)

What else? There are lots of things to recall from 2009. What an eventful year! But let’s not be more geek on this…let me remind my promise that I wanted to have Eid-ul-adha with my village people. This is one of the place I truly love to be. This year wasn’t any exception. As usual I had my Eid with my village people with some different moments….

What’s gonna happen in 2010? There’s gonna be lots of changes in my life, Uhm, but no guess…as I always say, wake up every morning and do what you enjoy the most…i will be keep following this theory by keeping very less expectations….

“Amra Positive” is Coming Soon…

November 3rd, 2009

Story behind this work was a little bit different. I wanted to learn python and thought best way to learn something new would be doing something practical with it. So decided to develop this application called “Amra Positive”.

What is Amra Positive?
A small application that is being developed for Bangladesh community.
And what it does?
Amra positive is a home for people of Bangladesh who are hopeful about this country, about their life, about their friends/events…etc. Who is tired of all bad news and really in need of some positive and good news. I hope this name is enough self explanatory but still let me tell you as an user what you can do with it….
  • If you have any good news about the country, friends, family, events pay a visit in this app and sing in with gmail id and then let the world know.
  • Share your hopes and dreams within 150 characters
  • If you don’t even like to post anything, you still can vote on others’ post to get them on top list news
  • And well, tired of hearing bad news about everything that is going around ? Visit here, because this is the home of all good and positive stuff about you!
is there any moderators of your posts?
No! not for now…nobody is going to moderate your post. Personally i will leave this judge on you.
But what the hell, where is the link of this application?
It’s ready and coming “soon”! Soon means soon….i promise it will come live pretty soon. Just keep your eyes on here in this blog and of course you will have more clear ideas once it goes live.
Thanks for your patience….
